How EPF savings grow

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF/KWSP) is Malaysia main retirement savings scheme. Each month, 11% of your wages goes in from your salary, and your employer adds another 12-13% - so close to a quarter of your wage is saved automatically.

EPF declares a dividend every year on your balance. Recent dividends have been around 5-6%, comfortably above fixed deposit rates and inflation. Because the dividend compounds, the balance grows faster the longer it is left.

Why time matters

Compounding means EPF money saved in your 20s does far more work than money saved later. This calculator shows the gap that consistent contributions and steady dividends build over 10, 20 or 30 years.
